I will be surprised if Vista comes out with most features in leopard, even if they are hacked wanna be copies. They have done it before and with the preview Apple will just give them one more chance to do it. What I don't think they will be able to copy is the features in the iApps that will come out or core video effects. Well, not without raising the requirements to run vista yet again.
Windows Vista is feature complete. What exists today in the beta versions out there is what will be in the final product. Now all they do is handle bug fixes and performance problems.

Along with the macbook and MB pro getting updates, for $14.95 you can download an ipod nano or ipod patch/software that lets you listen to FM radio without having to purchase the radio remote. Interface is the same as with the remote.

So who knows what will happen next week. I think I'd much rather buy movies from iTunes (hopefully QT 7 HD quality) or regular physical DVD than HD-DVD/Blu-Ray (way over-priced).

Usually several hours after the keynote... and then there is the "mad rush" because everyone wants a piece of hat keynote video. Traffic will slow down after eastern coast and central U.S. past mid-night. So if you are on the western coast, stay up late after 9PM and enjoy the show w/ popcorns.:)

I'm sorry, why is their target audience dwindling?It all comes down to how much extra you are willing to pay for the increased monitor specification. Most will pay 20% very few will pay 75%.

I like to know that I can listen to (or view) my music on my schedule, at my convenience, on my time. If someone's telling me that I've got to hew to THEIR schedule, then it's just ceased being convenient.

I forgot to mention this in my earlier post.
Netflix and Blockbuster's Mail Delivery Business Plan is flawed. Here's why:
1) Physical DVDs starch and become useless after many times of use or by shipping and handling.
2) Shipping Cost is only going to increase and this is an overhead that NO COMPANY WANTS. Plus having to maintain distributing centers in each state with physical inventory that has to be maintained, organized and checked for quality control.
3) People watch movies on an impulse. Do you ever plan what movie you are going to watch several days in advance? NO. I know at my house, we subscribed to Blockbusters DVD Mail Service only because we get 2 Free in-store movie rentals each month. This is because I don't know what I want to watch, until I go to the store and see what they have available and what MOOD we're in. Maybe I felt like a Comedy a couple of days ago, but now I want a Thriller, so instant gratification is a BIG KEY to this new service from Apple. Whatever mood you are in, you don't have to wait a few days to receive it from Netflix, just to play it and it's so starched up that you are not able to view it.

I guess the problem with a subscription model is, for now, the cost of bandwidth to Apple. A bittorrent-like sharing system might solve that.

so my prediction is Oct 26 at the UK MacExpo.

This will allow Apple to take advantage of pent-up demand for new machines by selling the higher-priced MPBs before the new MacBooks are introduced, and still have the consumer-oriented machines ready for the biggest consumer retail day of the year.
Specs? Core2 Duo 2.16 GHz base 15" model with GeForce Go 7300 and 100 GB HD, upgraded 2.33 GHz 15" with GeForce Go 7600 and 120 GB HD, and 17" with similar specs to the mid-range model except a 160 GB HD. All with 8X DL SuperDrive and (gasp!) 1 GB RAM (single DIMM), upgradeable to 3 GB. Prices should stay about the same.
As for MacBooks, I expect 1.83 and 2.0 GHz Core2 Duos, with (again!) 1 GB RAM (2 DIMMS), and HDs bumped to 80 GB for the white MacBooks and 100 GB for the BlackBook. Sorry, but Intel Integrated Graphics are in the Macbooks to stay, at least in the near future. Prices should again stay about the same.

yeah it was between super sprint, eisenmann, and remus. the shop wanted to do remus so i wasn't gonna argue. turned out real nice, a lot better than the stock look. quiet on the highway. loud but not obnoxious around town

Apple used to have all-in-ones, consumer towers, pro towers, etc. Remember the PowerMac 6400? Too many products is too confusing for the consumer. If that means that a couple of people can't get the exact configuration they want, so be it.
Many of the people on this thread are too new to remember the Performa fiascos of the early 90's. More than anything, Steve simplified the computer product line into 4 distinct quadrants. The only aberration to this is the Mac Mini.
re: The iMac being more powerful than the Pro Laptop. IMO, this is a non-issue. Their respective markets are different. If somebody needs laptop, they need a laptop. And the relative processing capability of the iMac will not necesarily change that individuals mind. The true iMac and MacBook Pro competition comes from Dell,HP, etc. Apple's job is to make computers that are competitive to the marketplace and, I feel, they would be ecstatic regardless of which APPLE computer you bought.

Exactly. Apple's philosophy with all their software is to make it powerful, yet simple so that you don't have to be a pro to figure out how to use it, at least the basics. You can use Mac OS X without ever touching the terminal or using Applescript, but if you're an advanced user, you have a ton of features available to you, should you chose to take advantage of them. I think that's the direction FCP has gone with this version.
